Our Center

Hillcrest Mission: Hillcrest Children’s Center provides quality care for every child in an environment focused on developing a foundation for a lifelong love of learning and respect for self and others. Hillcrest is a non-profit, parent cooperative that believes quality care comes from a partnership between the home and school.

Program Philosophy: Hillcrest’s approach to program development is based on the following essential belief: Children are cared for in a loving, safe environment surrounded by positive interactions where they develop feelings of self-esteem based on individual strengths and accomplishments. Learning is best achieved through play and activities that are designed to offer experiences in a variety of situations
geared to the developmental needs of the child.

Services: Hillcrest Children’s Center is a licensed child care facility serving families with children from eight weeks old to pre-Kindergarten as well as school age children for school in-service days and breaks. There are five different classrooms: non-mobile
infants, mobile infants, pre-toddlers, toddlers, and preschool. Hillcrest is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed in obervance of scheduled holidays and in-service days.

Organization: Hillcrest has provided the Alaska community with quality family child care since 1968. As a tax-exempt organization as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the tax code, Hillcrest is governed by a Board of Directors made up of parents. All parents are strongly encouraged in setting policy and direction for the center and are required to perform a minimum of 20 hours per year of volunteer assistance.
